Nowadays, in order to encourage children to learn technology skills, an increasing number of parents tend to allow them to play computer games. Although this strategy does help to some extent, I do not think the advantages can offset drawbacks.
It is an undeniable fact that playing on digital devices brings children an early exposure to science and technology, since it is easy and natural for them to get the hang of computer skill sthrough various procedures in the games. Moreover, children's interests will be stimulated through game-playing. Compared with those who are taught knowledge passively, children allowed to play on electronic devices are more likely to be attracted by these high-tech products, and then figure out more operations on their own.
However, despite the benefits referred to above, there are even more disadvantages. First, parents must make it clear that technology skills are never confined in the scope of computer games, and most valuable skills cannot be learnt just through computer games and tablets.Second, people, especially children, can easily get addicted to computer games, which will then lead to their spending more and more time playing and thus abandoning their study. Additionally, children would justify their game-playing byciting that they are learning skills, and under the permission of their parents they tend to spend more time playing without recognition.
In a word, I do not think it is a good way for children to learn new technology just through playing computer games; although this strategy can easily trigger interest, it has little to do with the main technology skills and would spoil children who lack self-control.
